William C. “Bill” Batchelder passed away peacefully Saturday at his home in Solano County. He was born in Berkeley California, raised and lived on the peninsula in Belmont before moving to Solano County 13 years ago. Bill left high school early and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1960-1964.
Following his discharge from the military, he began his career as a welder, steadily advancing to the position of plant superintendent at Delta Star, formerly known as H.K. Porter. He dedicated over 30 years of service to the company.
He was an avid reader, enjoyed bowling, working out, riding his bike, either by himself or with his family. He loved music, working in his yard, and being a handyman. One of his greatest joys was working with his grandson sharing skills on carpentry and instilling the joy of creating something with his hands. He also found joy watching his granddaughter play volleyball and taking more than an occasional trip to Baskin-Robbins.
He had a sense of adventure taking his daughters on road trips that included the Oregon Caves, Las Vegas, Tijuana and the ever-popular Disneyland, Magic Mountain, and Knott’s Berry Farm. He had a way of making his daughters feel special whether treating them to a day in San Francisco going to the theater to see Annie followed by a dinner of fine dining or a concert to see Chuck Berry at the Circle Star Theatre.
He is survived by his daughters Debbie (Michael) Souza and Veronica Ochoa-Bautista and her husband Mark and his grandchildren Nick Ochoa & Kaitlyn Bautista.
